Cheap Tickets Hits 10 Million Online Subscribers

Hawaii-based discount leisure travel services provider Cheap Tickets announced it has signed up a company-record 10 million subscribers.

The company reported its Internet bookings for the year grew 78 percent in 2000 over the previous year. The site launched on Oct. 3, 1997.

Cheap Tickets' overall gross bookings in 2000 also reached a record $666 million, a 34 percent increase over 1999. Internet gross bookings, increasing by 78 percent from 1999, accounted for 38 percent of Cheap Tickets' total gross bookings. Gross bookings from Cheap Tickets' call centers and travel stores for the year 2000 reached $410 million, a 17 percent increase from 1999.

Cheap Tickets has seen record-breaking registration levels through January and February. On average, 20,000 Internet users registered each day during these months, according to company officials.
