An escapee from the Hawaii State Hospital was back in police custody Saturday night.

Officers found Adonis Oandasan at about 6 p.m. Saturday. Police said he was trying to hitchhike on Likelike Highway by the H3 overpass.

Oandasan was last seen three days ago doing yard work on hospital grounds.

Police said he had a knife on him when he was found.

He was arrested last year for slashing the tires of at least 40 cars on the big island.

A judge ordered him to be confined to the Hawaii State Hospital in Kaneohe.
