Sunday marks the fourth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The anniversary was marked Friday with a new memorial on the Honolulu Community College campus.

Neal and Jan Snyder had the honor of unveiling the new memorial.

The memorial is in remembrance to those who were killed, including Christine Snyder, who had attended classes at HCC. She was killed when United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania.

"We lost daughters and sons and husbands and wives and parents that day. And, it shouldn't have happened. It should not have happened," Jan Snyder said.

The memorial is made of stainless steel. It is an American flag between two pillars representing the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Inside, in the back of the memorial, is a piece of the World Trade Center itself, given to HCC by an anonymous donor.

"To have Christine honored, I can't even put it into words how elated I am and how elated she would be," Neal Snyder said.

"This is real special just for us. But, we want to remember everybody, everybody, whose hearts that are hurting at the anniversary," Jan Snyder said.

The Snyders remember every year. Four years later, the tears still flow.

They said they are glad that others remember as well and that there's a memorial to remind everyone.
