A man was injured when a car lurched into the McDonald's restaurant near the Honolulu International Airport Thursday morning.

It happened at about 8:40 a.m. at the McDonald's on Valkenburgh Street.

A woman, who was at the restaurant to pick up her father, said she went to step on the brakes when the car sprung over the sidewalk and through the window, police said.

A man sitting about a foot away from the window was cut on his leg by flying glass and debris.

"That patron was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. He was walking around. He's in fair condition," police Sgt. Sam Rodriguez said.

The driver was not injured, but she was visibly shaken.

"We got very lucky on this one. There were no serious injuries, no deaths, of course. If a family had been sitting right there by the window, they would have taken the brunt of the force of the vehicle coming into the restaurant," Rodriguez said.

The McDonald's continued to serve customers through its drive-through lane. Officials said the restaurant should be back to full operations by the end of the day.
