Tax Hike Among 33 Bills Governor Plans To Veto

HONOLULU -- Gov. Linda Lingle Monday announced her intention to reject 33 bills lawmakers approved this session.On the list is a bill to hike the excise from 4 percent to 4.5 percent to pay for an Oahu transit system.Also on the list is the so-called "Union Bill" that requires the state and counties to negotiate with unions before transferring any public employee to another location.

Another measure facing rejection is the Hurricane Fund Raid bill to take $8 million out of the Hurricane Reserve Fund to use for other state purposes.Lingle must officially inform lawmakers of her vetoes July 12 at which time they can elect to go into a special session to override her vetoes.
