HONOLULU -- A federal judge Monday rejected an environmental lawsuit against the Army's Stryker brigade at Schofield Barracks.
Critics said upgrading the Army's equipment to bigger, more heavily-armored Stryker vehicles will harm the island environment.Schofield Barracks would also bring in more soldiers and need more land for training.Environmentalists claim the Army's environmental impact statement was flawed because it did not consider moving the brigade out of Hawaii. However, Judge David Ezra ruled that leaving Hawaii was not a reasonable alternative given Hawaii's strategic importance and the importance of upgrading without sacrificing training or readiness.
