Three homes on Honolulu's Wilhelmina Rise have been evacuated after vials containing an unknown liquid were found under one of the homes.

Hazmat crews and police were called to 1611 Pa'ula Drive around 5 p.m. Tuesday evening after a woman living in the home found the vials in her basement, KITV 4 News reported. She said her husband was in the military and kept a lot of things in the basement.

Fire Department Capt. Emmit Kane said Army experts are coming to Honolulu from Maryland to identify the unknown substance.

Kane said the liquid has been contained and no one has been exposed. He said the homes were evacuated because officials "don't want the product disrupted."

He said military specialists advised police and firefighters to secure the scene.

Kane said military specialists have determined that the shape of the vials is similar to those used in training test kits in the Korean War or World War II.

Homes in the area remained cordoned off Wednesday morning. Roads were reopened late Tuesday. People passing by the area are warned to stay away and keep upwind of the house.
