Coast Guard Delays Efforts To Move Grounded Ship

POSTED: 4:16 pm HST February 7, 2005

The Coast Guard's efforts to refloat a ship that ran aground off Barbers Point are on hold because of unsafe sea conditions.

Coast Guard officials suspended operations Sunday to remove a load of cement from the Cape Flattery because of rough seas. Efforts will resume when ocean conditions calm down, officials said.

The Coast Guard said prior to suspending operations, crews removed about one-third of the cement needed to refloat the boat.

The ship is owned by Pacific Basin. It ran aground last week Wednesday.
