2005 HONOLULU -- Family members of a girl hurt by illegal fireworks on New Year's Eve are asking for help in catching the people responsible. The girl's hand was severely injured as she shielded her face from the explosion of a homemade bomb. She has already had three surgeries and has another scheduled for next week."I'm going through surgery and my arm hurts," Cydnee Somera, 11, said.Somera has been in the hospital since New Year's Eve. That's when her family was visiting friends on Kihale Street in Aiea."I turned around and all of a sudden these guys lit up a bucket with an aerial. I covered my face. That's when my hand got cut," she said."I didn't know she had gotten hurt until she came running to me she had told me she thought her hand came off," Cydnee's mother, Tanya Somera, said.Police have suspects in the case, but said they won't talk and have hired a lawyer. Investigators need witnesses to come forward, but the family wants the person responsible to just turn himself in."I'd like him to admit to it. You know? Because she was just the innocent person, just playing, having fun. You know? Just for her peace of mind and her knowing that they did the right thing," Tanya Somera said.Cydnee had one thing to say to the men who lit the bomb."I would just be very mad at them. I didn't deserve this," Cydnee Somera said.Copyright 2005 by TheHawaiiChannel.com All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed. | KITV on Facebook
