Officials Say Escapee Scaled Razor Wire Fence

HONOLULU -- Honolulu police launched a search for an inmate, who escaped from the Oahu Community Correctional Center Monday morning.
Authorities identified the escapee as Michael Ventura, 25.A prison spokesman said Ventura scaled a razor wire fence at OCCC. He got away but left something behind."At 20 after 8 a.m., they found his pants on the fence," Public Safety Department spokesman Mike Gaede said.Ventura's boxer shorts were also found."(A witness) saw a male running from this area from the Foremost parking lot toward Tesoro gas station across the street he had a brown paper bag or a brown piece of cardboard wrapped around his waist," Honolulu Police Department Detective Larry Lawson.Police believe they spotted Ventura at least once from their helicopter. At that time, he was wearing a white shirt and black pants.Ventura was serving a 90-day sentence and had two weeks left. He now faces five years in prison because of the escape, officials said.
