Coast Guard crews helped rescue five people on board a commercial fishing vessel after they were forced to abandon their ship Sunday afternoon.

At about 2:30 p.m., the Coast Guard picked up an emergency distress beacon more than 200 miles southwest of Kauai.

A Coast Guard C-130 airplane was sent to the area and found a vessel taking on water. Rescue crews dropped two pumps to the fisherman to help remove water from the ship, but it wasn't enough.

The fishermen got into a raft and were picked up by another fishing vessel.
