U.S. Transportation Director Norman Mineta was in Honolulu Thursday with ferryboats much on his mind.

Mineta toured the waters off Pier 19 with Gov. Linda Lingle. That's the planned site of the super ferry planned to begin inter-island service in 2006.

The governor and state Transportation Director Rodney Haraga briefed Mineta on plans to accommodate what they regard as a very promising venture for Hawaii residents.

Later, Mineta announced a federal grant of more than $5 million to help buy new ferryboats for tourists visiting the Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.
