HONOLULU -- A 13-year-old Big Island boy playing with his father's .22-caliber revolver accidentally shot his friend in the head Friday night.

Paramedics treated the 14-year-old victim and rushed him to North Hawaii Community Hospital. He was then transferred to Kona. He underwent surgery there. He was later released in good condition.

Big Island police are investigating the 13-year-old boy's father for negligent storage of a firearm.
