A Hawaii Kai woman is grateful no one was injured when an SUV went airborne and landed in her swimming pool this past weekend.

The driver of a Toyota Highlander crashed through a fence and into the pool of a Hawaii Kai home.
The $25,000 SUV was pulled from 8 feet of water from the swimming pool of a Hawaii Kai home Monday. Homeowner Katherine Peacock was getting ready to go to the store on Saturday when it happened.

"And all of a sudden I heard a crash and saw a car flying in and it flew right into my pool," she said.

Peacock said she thought she was dreaming, but when she looked outside, sure enough there was a car in her pool.

"And so I guess two people were in the pool and they got out OK and it was my 80th birthday, so this was my birthday present," she said.

The owner of the vehicle and his wife swam to safety. He said he's a little embarrassed about how and why the car ended up in Peacock's pool.

The owner of the car was teaching his wife how to drive. They turned onto Niumalu Street; she swerved to avoid hitting an oncoming car and crashed into the fence.

Mark Peacock lives two doors down from his mother. He came running when he heard the crash. He was so happy to learn his mother had not been injured. He said he has no hard feelings toward the car's owner.

"He's a nice guy. We became friends. Accidents happen, as long as nobody's hurt that's the main thing," Mark Peacock said.

Affordable Towing said cost to remove the car will run about $3,000. The company said these types of calls are not all that unusual. "We do approximately three of these jobs a month," said Devin Statts of Affordable Towing.

Fortunately Katherine Peacock's pool didn't suffer much damage. She and her son said the fence and brick wall can be replaced easy enough. They are just happy no one was injured by the flying Toyota Highlander.
