POSTED: 7:53 am HST June 9, 2004

Police arrested a 34-year-old man on drunken driving and negligent injury charges after a head-on, two-car crash near Honokai Hale Wednesday morning that hospitalized two people.

It happened on Farrington Highway just after 1:30 a.m.

Police closed the highway going into Nanakuli and rerouted traffic onto side streets.

Traffic investigators said the 34-year-old driver of a Nissan Pathfinder was heading the wrong way on Farrington Highway and hit a Chevrolet pickup going into town on the highway.

A 49-year-old man and his adult female passenger in the truck were taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. Their conditions have since been upgraded.

The driver of the Pathfinder was treated at St. Francis West for minor injuries before he was arrested.
