ORLANDO, Fla. -

A 2-year-old girl is walking again after she lost her legs in a lawnmower accident.

On Monday, Ireland Nugent was fitted for a new pair of prosthetic legs.

For her mother, Nicole Nugent, waiting for this moment was more difficult than waiting for her to walk for the first time.

"This is bigger because there was so much of a potential for, I hate to say it, but a loss of life," Nicole Nugent said. "Now, we're looking at her growing up and happy and I'm just so excited for her."

Watching his daughter walk was a huge relief for Jerry Nugent. He was driving the lawnmower when she was accidentally run over in April.

"This was so close to being our worst fear come true, but it's all been blessings. From that point on, she has just been a trooper," Jerry Nugent said.

Steve Chamberland knows the challenges that lie ahead for Ireland. He lost his leg in a motorcycle crash and his charitable foundation, 50legs.org, is paying the medical bills the Nugent family's insurance doesn't cover.

"She's so young, she's not going to remember any of this.  Six months from now, her putting on her legs will be like you putting your shoes on," Chamberland said.

"She's a champ. You saw her. She's amazing," he said.
