HONOLULU -- The third man indicted in the Pali Golf Course shootings made his first court appearance Wednesday.
Kevin Gonsalves, 33, made a brief appearance in traffic court to answer to three outstanding contempt of court charges. The judge ordered Gonsalves held on nearly $2,000 bail. He'll have to appear in Waianae traffic court Friday.
Gonsalves was captured Tuesday at a home in Nanakuli.
He's scheduled to appear Monday, in Circuit Court, in connection with the golf course shooting, which left two men dead and another man in critical condition.
Police earlier arrested Rodney Joseph Jr., 35, and Joseph's cousin, Ethan Motta, 34.
All three suspects are in custody, but that doesn't mean law enforcement can relax. Now, those charged with their care have to make sure the men accused of first-degree murder remain safe.
High-profile suspects and those involved with gangs or gambling-related violence are often placed in protective custody.
Joseph and Motta are in a special unit at the Oahu Community Correctional Center. Gonsalves will likely be placed in protective custody as well.
Gonsalves was found Tuesday hiding under a bed in a Nanakuli home. He may have been hiding from more than the law.
Police said Gonsalves and the other two suspects are linked to illegal gambling. They said two rival groups might have been looking for Gonsalves.
Gonsalves, Joseph and Motta were in special protective custody while with the sheriffs, according to state sheriffs. They were constantly in restraints and separated from others in custody due to rumors of threats against the men.
At OCCC the protective custody unit is a secretive area and KITV 4's cameras were not allowed in. Prison workers said at times it's empty, but has held up to 12 prisoners at once.
Another high-profile prisoner, Christopher Aki -- the man charged with killing Kahealani Ingredinal, 11, more than a year ago -- was in the protective custody unit. He has since been moved into the regular population.
As for Gonsalves, Joseph and Motta, they'll stay in protective custody until prison administrators deem it safe for them to come out.
