Honolulu Bounty Hunter Tracks Alleged Kidnapper

Police Believe Softball Coach Kidnapped Female Player

POSTED: 2:26 PM HST October 22, 2003

Hawaii bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman arrived in Beaverton, Ore. to track down a softball coach accused of kidnapping one of the coach's teenage players.

Police said Andrew Garver kidnapped Mimi Smith, 15.

Chapman arrived in Oregon Tuesday night. A reporter asked Chapman if he had anything special in his bags.

"We have to check laws. We got super-spy stuff, but we're, like, no-weapons guys. We'll take them down Hawaiian-style, with fists. We'll mug the guy, but we don't carry weapons, that kind of stuff. We just don't believe in that," Chapman said.

Chapman said he already has several good leads. Beaverton police said Chapman's involvement is unneccessary and will hurt the case.
