East Oahu resident Aaron Isgar was alarmed when he received his absentee voter's ballot in the mail Wednesday.

Isgar opened it, glanced it over and then discovered one of the races was not printed anywhere on the ballot.

“I realized it was missing the state senate district 25 race for the primary and I looked at both the democratic and the republicans side and it was missing on both sides. I thought this could be a problem,” said Isgar.

District 25 covers Kailua, Waimanalo and a portion of Hawaii Kai.

Isgar said he immediately reported the misprint to the city’s clerk’s office.

“They acknowledged it and they already started working on sending out new ballots,” said Isgar.

Five candidates are running for the seat vacated by long-time Republican Fred Hemmings.

On the democratic ticket is Kailua neighborhood board chair Chuck Prentiss, outspoken Waimanalo resident and longtime neighborhood board member Andrew Jamila and community activist Pohai Ryan.

Republican candidates include Joe "the builder" Pandolfe, an advocate for small business and Kailua neighborhood board member Virgina Enos.

“For there to be an error on the ballot is a grave concern,” said Enos.

At the GOP headquarters Wednesday night Enos expressed concern over how the glitch might affect the race.

“We most definitely need to correct it so that we can have a fair voting process. That’s very important,” said Enos.

Enos pointed out it may bring more attention to the race but with less than three weeks until the elections, Isgar says voters may not fill out a second ballot.

Isgar suspected budget cuts may have led to the snafu at the states office of elections.

If you received a misprinted ballot, soon you should have in the mail a letter explaining the problem attached to the corrected ballot.

If you have any questions, call the State's Office of Elections at 808-453-VOTE.
