HONOLULU -- Honolulu police are looking for two patients, they said escaped while on supervised excursions.

In 2004 a judge acquitted Pomale Falaniko of a harassment charge.

Falaniko was found mentally insane.

According to Hawaii court documents Falaniko's criminal record includes 14 charges, ranging from a sex assault to a felony assault -- now he's on the loose.

Honolulu police are also in the hunt for 26-year-old Alfred Paul Godfrey IV.

Police said Godfrey was last seen at the River of Life Mission in Chinatown, during a supervised meeting at the facility.

Five years ago ago, he was mistakenly released from the Oahu community correctional center when he was being transported to the Hawaii State Hospital in Kaneohe.

Police said Monday afternoon Falaniko walked away during a supervised trip at Windward Mall.

"When we have escapes in the population everyone is at risk so it was very important to me that we have the personnel on site to provide the security," said Sen. Jill Tokuda (D).

Tokuda represents the Kaneohe district.

The senator pushed for tighter security at the state hospital this legislative session but the bill she authored was vetoed by Gov. Linda Lingle.

"There is a fear in the community about what's going on. Why are there so many escapes? And are there escapees and attempted escapes that we are just not hearing about," said Tokuda.

A spokesperson for the department of health oversees the state hospital and declined to comment on the escapes, citing privacy laws.

"It is really my hope that the department of health and the Hawaii State Hospital staff are taking appropriate measures whenever they are going on any outings with patients they are supervised," said Tokuda.
