With Oahu's bus drivers on strike, city officials have put together some contingency plans for the 250,000 commuters who use the public transportation system.City's Saturday Shuttle Service for 9/6/03

DeRussy, Kalakaua Ave. (Waikiki Police Station) to Honolulu Zoo to University of Hawaii Sinclair Circle, returning to Chinatown KAILUA-WAIMANALO: Five stops each way - Kailua Town (Longs), Kailua Enchanted Lake Shopping Center, Waimanalo (Shima's Market), Waimanalo Post Office and Chinatown SALT LAKE-AIRPORT: 3 stops each way - Chinatown Gateway, Sal Lake Shopping Center and Kamehameha Highway at Paiea. NORTH SHORE: 4 stops each way - Haleiwa (North Shore Market Place), Sunset Beach (Foodland), Kaaawa (7-11) and Windward Mall MILILANI-WAHIAWA-HALEIWA: 3 stops each way - Mililani Town Center, Wahiawa (Kamehameha Hwy. at California Ave.), Haleiwa (North Shore Marketplace).

There is also a City Vans program. People who live in outlying areas can arrange to be picked up and brought to town in a city van. The jitney proposal would involve using taxicabs to run along eight bus routes between Waipahu and Waikiki.Instead of a bus picking up passengers at a bus stop, a jitney would act as a taxicab. The stops would run along popular routes, including runs from the University of Hawaii to Ala Moana Center to Waipahu. However, even the estimated 100 taxis won't completely replace TheBus system.It also will cost more. If you catcg a jitney, the driver will charge you $3 no matter how long the ride.Locations:
