Rapper and music producer Kanye West has some explaining to do after a car registered to him crashed into a house near Diamond Head early Saturday morning.

Chris Cooper said he was shaken out of bed at around 4 a.m. Saturday by the loud noise.

"Just a tremendous crash. As if a small building were coming down," said Cooper, who lives across the street from the crash scene.

Cooper thought something had happened on Diamond Head Road until he stepped outside.

"I looked over here and saw the car impaled in the garage," he said.

The garage door to the home was pushed in and there was a large, gaping hole in the side of the garage wall.

Honolulu police said the Porsche Panamera found at the scene is registered to rap star Kanye West. They said the car was being driven along Hibiscus Drive when it failed to make a right turn.

Cooper said he never heard the sound of brakes and was the first on the scene.

"I walked over to see if anyone was dead or people in the car because I could smell liquids and I could hear them draining and no one was there," said Cooper.

An employee at the towing company called to the scene said they had a difficult time prying the Porsche from the home.

The multi-million dollar house is being renovated and is currently unoccupied.

West has been living in Hawaii recording a new album. He's been renting a home at the foot of Diamond Head since December.

Residents said except for a few loud parties, West has been a good neighbor. But they said this is not the first time there's been drama on their street involving their famous neighbor.

Neighbors said they've heard arguing on the street in the early morning hours in the past and an ambulance has been called to the home before.

Sources told KITV West is currently not on the island, and that his cousin had permission to drive the car. Witnesses told police they saw three men running from the scene after the crash.

Police said an auto theft report was filed shortly after the accident.
