Rodrigues Loses Second Bid For Vacation PayPOSTED: 3:42 p.m. HST July 28, 2003 HONOLULU -- Former union leader Gary Rodrigues failed again Monday to get the United Public Workers union to pay him for his accumulated sick leave and vacation. Rodrigues retired as the union's leader last November after being convicted of 101 counts of embezzlement, fraud and kickbacks.
Rodrigues said UPW owes him more than $500,000 because he almost never took a vacation or called in sick. The union disputes that amount.
Judge Sabrina McKenna refused to force the union to pay it.
Rodrigues faces sentencing in September.
