Census Workers Target Kalihi For Low Return Rate
Kalihi Has 28 Percent Return Rate For 2010 Census

KALIHI, Hawaii -- Census workers and volunteers campaigned in Kalihi on Friday morning in an effort to encourage residents to complete and return their census forms.The group held signs at the intersection of Likelike Highway and School Street, where that section of the state has a 28 percent return rate."Kalihi has one of the lowest response rates so far in Hawaii. We just want to encourage people that it's really, really simple. It's safe and it's important to the state of Hawaii," said Roberta Murray, a 2010 Census Hawaii media specialist.Honolulu has a 64 percent return rate, while the state return rate is 58 percent.
