A local man in his late 40s was bitten by a shark off of Makua Bay on Oahu's west side Tuesday morning, according to a tour boat owner.

Victor Lozano owns Dolphin Excursions Hawaii tour company. He said his boat was close to Makua Beach when he witnessed eight people swimming to a pod of dolphins in the area. That's when the man was bitten by the shark, he said.

Lozano said the shark was possibly a tiger shark and at least 7 feet long.

The man suffered deep cuts to his foot and fractured his ankle.

"The individual was out there swimming with the dolphins and a shark came from behind and bit him on his foot. He did have fins on," lifeguard Dean Marzol said.

Lozano helped rescue the man and brought him on shore, where paramedics treated the victim. The ambulance crew transported the victim to Waianae Comprehensive Health Center.

The man, suffered deep teeth gashes to one foot, and a fractured ankle. He was taken to the Waianae Health Center where he was treated and released.
