Volunteers with the city, state and community organizations came together in a cleanup and recycling effort for the 72nd Aloha Aina Earth Day on Saturday.

Due to the popularity of the campaign, it was the second drive that has been scheduled this month. And it was powered entirely by volunteers.

"We're going around cleaning up, cleaning up illegal dump sites. The community is bringing to us scrap metal, computers. Planet Earth is being cleaner today because of our volunteers," said Rene Mansho with Schnitzer Steel Hawaii.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Farrington High School, the host school for Saturday's event.
