An advertisement began running Monday in several newspaper publications marketing the sale of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.

The ad satisfies a condition set by the U.S. Department of Justice when the owner of the Star-Bulletin looked for approval to buy the Honolulu Advertiser.

A purchase agreement was announced last month and is scheduled to close as early as mid-April.

The ad will run for 14 days in the Star-Bulletin, the Advertiser and The Wall Street Journal, officials said.

If there is no buyer, the Star-Bulletin and the Advertiser will merge, officials said.

The publisher of the Star-Bulletin said one person on the list of contacts for a buyer is Pierre Omidyar, billionaire eBay founder and Hawaii resident who plans to begin an online-only local news service.
