Air traffic over downtown Honolulu and Kalihi will increase this month starting Monday because of maintenance work on the reef runway, the state Department of Transportation said.

The reef runway, officially called Runway 8R, will be closed Monday March 15 and Tuesday March 16 from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. It will also be closed from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily from March 28 through April 2.

During the scheduled maintenance periods the flight patterns for departing aircraft will be modified meaning more air traffic over the city, officials said.
