The family of Karen Ertell said Friday they are pleased with an Oahu judge finding Vernon Bartley guilty of murder but are not satisfied.

They will ask a judge to sentence Bartley to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

On Thursday Vernon Bartley was convicted of murdering Ertell in her Ewa Beach home in May 2007.

Ertell's boyfriend, Kevin Callahan, said the guilty verdict does not bring closure but does provide relief.

"It's not closure. It never will be closure. I think it will allow us to move forward but we miss Karen terribly," said Callahan.

Ertell's foster daughter believes Bartley is not capable of reform and deserves to stay behind bars for the rest of his life.

"If he is released he will just do it again. He's shown no remorse. He's not taken any responsibility. ...I just don't see him as someone who can be reformed," said Malanie McLellan.

A jury will decide if Bartley will be sent to prison without parole.

Prosecutors said they will push for a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Bartley's sentencing date is scheduled for May 3.
