HONOLULU -- A new Ehime Maru fishing training vessel is scheduled to pull into Honolulu Harbor Tuesday. The Japanese fishing training vessel is named after the trawler that was sunk by a U.S. submarine in waters off Diamond Head on Feb. 9, 2001.
The vessel is expected to arrive at 8 a.m. The Ehime Maru Memorial Association will host a welcome ceremony at Aloha Tower Marketplace starting at 9 a.m.
Students from Saint Louis High School and the principal of Ehime Maru's fishing school will participate in the ceremony.
A court of inquiry was held for Cmdr. Scott Waddle of the USS Greeneville. Waddle was allowed to retire honorably with full benefits.
A team of Navy divers and salvage operators moved the remains of the Ehime Maru farther from shore and recovered the remains of all but one of the nine victims at the end of 2001.
