The nation's governors met in Washington, D.C, on Saturday for the 2010 National Governor's Association annual winter meeting.

On the agenda were health care reform, public health preparedness and advancing a green economy.

Gov. Linda Lingle said she met with officials from the Department of Homeland Security and discussed the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum meeting in Hawaii in 2011. She said she was trying to urge officials to free up federal money for security to pay Hawaii police departments and emergency responders. It will mark the first time the state has hosted 20 world leaders for the APEC conference.

Lingle said she also met with Department of Energy officials in an effort to secure a federal funding stream for energy projects in connection with the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative.

First Lady Michelle Obama delivered the meeting's opening remarks on health care reform and to talk about her new initiative aimed at reducing childhood obesity dubbed "Let's Move."
