Hawaiian Electric Co. crews restored power to a large section of Kaneohe that was without electricity for about three hours Monday.

Power to about 1,600 customers was cut about 8:30 a.m., said Heco spokeswoman Jan Miller.

The problem was traced to a broken insulator, Miller said.

At about 9:30 a.m. power was restored to about 600 customers. The area affected was behind Windward City Shopping Center near Kaneohe Elementary School.

The shopping center, which includes Foodland, Longs Drugs store, Denny's Restaurant and McDonald's as well as 24 Hour Fitness was without power for about 45 minutes, Miller said.

All power was restored at 11:30 a.m.
