Sun-brewed beer is coming to the islands.

The Kona Brewing Company's Kailua-Kona pub will be receiving a 229-kilowatt photovoltaic system.

The system, to be installed by the company Sunetric, will be used to generate solar energy to run the facility and brew beer.

This will be Hawaii's first beer production facility to go solar.

Construction on the new system is already under way and the new system is expected to begin operating in April.

It is anticipated the system will shave more than $100,000 off the company's electricity bill.
