Officials said a construction worker is in critical condition after he was pinned under a van at a building site on Friday.

Paramedics and fire officials responded to a report of a pedestrian accident at about 8:30 a.m. in part of a new subdivision that is part of Aliamanu Military Housing.

According to paramedics, a man in his 40s was pinned under the van and a woman in her 20s was also hit.

After about 30 minutes and a joint effort by both city and federal fire agencies, the victim was pulled out from under the van.

The man suffered possible life-threatening multiple injuries to his head, face, arms, body and legs, officials said.

Scott Whitehead, a carpenter working at the construction site, described what happened.

"It's very sad," Whitehead said. "Apparently, one of the workers was driving a company vehicle and ran over two people accidentally while he was trying to pick up something off the floor of the vehicle. He lost control."

The male victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition and the construction site was closed after the accident. Workers were told not to return until Monday.

The woman who was struck by the van was also taken to Queens in stable condition.
