HONOLULU -- A District Court judge ordered local recording artist Aziel Toeaina to stay in Hawaii pending his court proceedings on attempted murder charges.
You may have heard his popular song "Fall in Love Again" on the radio, but Toeaina
got into trouble over the weekend when, according to police, he fired shots at former University of Hawaii football player Tupu Alualu.
Wednesday, Toeaina asked Judge Russell Nagata if he could attend a memorial service for his mother in California, but produced just a one-way ticket.
Thursday, the singer came back with a roundtrip flight, but the judge still said no.
Prosecutors said they consider Toeaina a career criminal and a flight risk. They said he has two convictions for promoting dangerous drugs and allegedly has links to a San Francisco gang.
Prosecutors asked the judge to take Toeaina's passport away because they say he may flee to New Zealand.
That request was denied.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 5.
