A man accused of a New Year's Day slaying made his first appearance in court in the case on Monday.

Chadwick Tadley, 37, appeared in District Court. He is accused of shooting a man in a Waipahu apartment on Friday.

The victim, identified as Kamuela Kaleikilo, 22, of Waimanalo, was found lying in a pool of blood inside Tadley's apartment, officials said. Kaleikilo died Saturday.

Honolulu police had to break into Tadley's Leolua Street apartment after receiving a call about the shooting, according to court documents.

Tadley and two teenagers were arrested inside the apartment, documents said.

Authorities charged Tadley with second-degree murder. His bail is set at $1million.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
