At the Deep Draft Harbor there's no sight of the barge that's supposed to make a historic journey.

Currently, by the city's estimates there's probably about 300 tons of rubbish stacking up dockside.

The bales are waiting to be loaded onto a vessel that was to come from Oregon, but it appears those plans have changed.

The state harbor master said the barge that was to arrive Wednesday was canceled last week is been rescheduled for sometime in January.

Hawaiian Waste systems did not return KITV's calls, but the city administration is starting to wonder if the garbage isn't going to be a problem.

So far, there are no real odor problems. The opala is shrink-wrapped but if the trash isn't shipped out soon something will have to give.

"They have to rewrap and it's something they do at their own expense. It's something they would prefer not to do since it eats into their bottom line. The city just wants to make sure health and safety is addressed at all times out here," said City Managing Director Kurt Caldwell. "At some point, someone is going to weigh in. The department of health may get increasingly concerned because we do have a landfill and they don't want a second landfill at Campbell Industrial Park."

The city is waiting to hear from Hawaiian Waste Systems about a new date, if Wednesday is a no go.

"It's going to fill up and if the barge doest arrive they are not going to have a place to put it," Caldwell said.
