HONOLULU -- Firefighters searched the ocean off Makapu'u Monday, but were unable to find a body that onlookers reported seeing in the water.

The fire department's Air One helicopter headed to the scene near the Makapu'u Lighthouse trail just before 6 p.m.

Some sightseers had reported possibly seeing a body in the ocean a couple of hundred feet from shore.

Fire department crews on land and in the air did not find anything.

Honolulu Fire Department ended the search at about 6:45 p.m. waiting to see if someone was reported missing or an empty vehicle was found nearby.
