A 20-year-old motorcyclist died in a collision with a small sport utility vehicle in Halawa on Saturday night. A 13-year-old in the SUV was critically injured, Honolulu police said.

Police said the accident happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Halawa Heights Road at Iwaiwa Street. They said the motorcycle rider was heading up the hill at a high rate of speed. When the vehicle pulled out to cross the road, the motorcyclist slammed into it, police said.

Motocyle And SUV Collision
A motorcyclist was killed and others in a station wagon were seriously injured in a crash in Halawa.
The motorcyclist was taken to Queens Medical Center in critical condition and later died, Honolulu Police Department Lt. Darren Izumo said.

The SUV had six occupants, Izumo said. In addition to the 13-year-old, a 10-year-old boy and a teenager from the SUV were taken to the hospital in serious condition.

"Right now, speed is a factor on the part of the motorcycle," Izumo said. "We'll determine later if drugs or alcohol were involved."
