The Board of Water Supply on Tuesday asked residents on Oahu's Leeward Coast to conserve water because of water main break.

Police contra-flowed traffic on Farrington Highway in Nanakuli. A contractor working in the area accidentally damaged a 24-inch water main at about 10:30 a.m., the Board of Water Supply said.

The problem happened between Nanakuli and Haleakala avenues.

Police closed both Honolulu-bound lanes of Farrington Highway. Police are using one of the westbound lanes for eastbound traffic.

BWS asked that residents from Honokai Hale to Makaha conserve water.

Officials want resident to use water only for cooking, drinking and personal hygiene.

The water main supplies 60 percent of the water for Leeward Oahu.
