Woman In Kaneohe Slaying Gets Plea Deal

Prosecutors Did Not Want Defendant To Testify

The woman at the center of a love triangle that led to a slaying was sentenced on Monday to two more years in prison.

It was an unusual deal for Melissa Ordonez, 24. Prosecutors gave her a plea agreement partly because they did not want her to testify.

"I regret what has happened," Ordonez told the court.

"She basically set the chain of events going with her own lies and conspiracy," Deputy Prosecutor Darrell Wong said.

Ordonez told one boyfriend, Jerrico Lindsey, that there may be drugs and money at the house of another boyfriend, Benjamin Grajeda, prosecutors said. Lindsey ended up kidnapping and killing Grajeda, shooting him to death with a machine pistol in the middle of Kaneohe Bay Drive.

A jury found Lindsey guilty of second-degree murder.

Ordonez apologized to everyone involved.

"To the victim the victims family to his wife and daughter to his parents to and his brothers and his sisters and to my family," she said.

"She looks back at it and she feels horrible about what happened," defense attorney Michael Green said.

Ordonez accepted responsibility for all that happened. After initially lying to investigators so often, prosecutors decided she should get a plea agreement. They offered a 10-year sentence with parole at three years and four months so that she would not testify.

"She has given so many different statements lying to police it would just cause a mess as far as evidence for the jury," Wong said.

Ordonez's family from Maui said they wished they could have prevented her from teenaged drug addiction and poor choices in men.

Ordonez made promises to them.

"To show my family and to make them proud," she said.
