HONOLULU -- Fire destroyed a house in St. Louis Heights on Wednesday morning, but no one was seriously injured. The single-family home was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived, officials said."I heard a glass explode and it sounded like somebody dropped a huge bottle, and I heard the landlord yell upstairs, 'Call 911! Call 911!'" neighbor Bill Kunstman said. "I came running out of the house and there were flames like 40 feet out of the roof over next store here."(Slideshow: Images: Flames Engulf Home)Two people were home at the time. A 64-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man escaped with minor injuries, officials said. The home is located on Bertram Street. The fire was first reported at 6:30 a.m. It took firefighters about 40 minutes to bring it under control."The roof is made out of aluminum so it holds the heat in rather than burning through and releasing," Capt. Terry Seelig said. The fire actually flared up again two hours later. More flames could be seen coming from the roof.Making things worse, one of the occupants said there was some live ammunition in his room."We basically treated this as a defensive fire attack until we could cool it down to the point where we eliminated the hazard of the ammunition," Seelig said.
