Coast Guard and fire rescue teams searched the stretch of ocean from Haleiwa to Kaena Point. They are looking for Russel Yoshida, 53, who set out from Wailua to go fishing on a 10-foot plastic kayak.

Searchers on Monday night found his paddle. On Tuesday, crews found more items from Yoshida's kayak near shore.

"They were found in a near shore area the current seemed to pull in an eddy, driftwood, debris, flotsam, and among that the items I described, a bailer, a water bottle and fishing rod," HFD Capt. Terry Seelig said.

Yoshida is said to be an experienced kayaker and fisherman.

The area searched was about the size of Oahu. The search will continue until dark.
