2009 HONOLULU -- University of Hawaii students and professors said the latest fallout from budget cuts could have a lasting effect on their ability to study and do research.Because of the budget shortfall both Sinclair and Hamilton Libraries will be closed over the winter break. Sinclair will be closed for two weeks while Hamilton Library will be closed for three weeks.Students and professors said they are upset. They said this is the time when they get a lot of work done."There is a lot of discontent and dismay among the faculty that I have talked to. They are shocked and surprised that a main library can be closed down without much consultation with the faculty and students," said political science professor Nevzat Soguk. The university said all 10 UH campuses, including the libraries, will be closed over the winter and spring breaks.A negotiated settlement with HGEA enables the UH to save $4 million in electricity and other maintenance costs.
