Man Drowns At BYU-Hawaii Pool

Bystanders Pull Victim From Pool

A man died Friday after an apparent drowning at the swimming pool at Brigham Young University at Hawaii in Laie.

Bystanders pulled the man from the pool.

Paramedics were called at about 6:20 a.m., Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said. When they arrived, they treated the man who appeared to be in his 50s and took him to a hospital in critical condition, officials said.

The man died shortly after at the hospital, Cheplic said.
