A 22-year-old Honokaa woman was killed Wednesday in a two-car crash on Hawaii Belt Road in Waimea, police said.

The crash happened just before 7:30 a.m. Police identified the victim as Keshia Fernandez.

Fernandez's four-door sedan lost control, crossed the centerline and hit an oncoming vehicle.

Emergency workers treated Fernandez and took her to North Hawaii Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:22 a.m.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 34-year-old Kamuela woman, and four children ranging in age from 2 to 14, were treated for minor injuries at NHCH.

Traffic Enforcement Unit officers opened a negligent homicide investigation and ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The road was wet from recent rains at the time of the crash, police said.
