Schofield Barracks held a celebration on Thursday for about 4,500 soldiers who returned from Iraq.

The soldiers have returned in waves from September to about two weeks ago from nine different units.

During the one-year deployment, 51 soldiers died and 250 were injured.

Leaders with the base thanked the troops for their service and the families for their personal sacrifice.

Officials also told the soldier that they will be there for them as they return to their lives at home. The rate of suicide for the military has gone up this year over 2008.

Schofield Barracks officials said they want to make sure that soldier who need help will get what they need.

The base is holding a celebration on Thursday night that includes country singer Lee Ann Womack along with game and food booths for the soldiers and their families.
