HONOLULU -- The U.S. departments of State and Homeland Security will host an international symposium on transnational crime starting on Tuesday in Honolulu. The three-day conference is closed to the public and media.

Participants will include representatives from several Pacific Rim countries.

International groups will also attend, such as Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, the Organization of American States, the Asia Pacific Group on Money-Laundering, Interpol and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

The meeting will discuss cross-border criminal activity, including firearms, narcotics, human smuggling and trafficking, money laundering and corruption.

It will also delve into ways to strengthen international law enforcement cooperation, as well as current and emerging threats and vulnerabilities.
