Crews reopened the Ala Wai Boulevard at about 1 p.m.

Officials said about half a dozen low-rise buildings were without water on Thursday.

"We really apologize for the inconvenience that this main break caused. Again, our crews worked as hard as they could to get this main break repaired as soon as they could to restore water service," BWS spokesman Kurt Tsue said.

Crews worked to patch the damage on the road until about midday Friday, officials said.

A 16-inch water main was broken near where it connected to an 8-inch main. It was reported at about 3:45 a.m.

Officials closed the Ala Wai Boulevard between Kuamoo and Keoniana streets.
