Big Island Police Accuse Man Of Murdering Daughter, 8Victim Was Suspect's DaughterPOSTED: 10:22 a.m. HST April 21, 2003 HONOLULU -- Big Island police arrested a Kau man Sunday in connection with the shooting death of his 8-year-old daughter.
Police were called to Becky's Bed & Breakfast in Naalehu at about 11:46 a.m. after reports of gunfire. Officers found Kelsie Fathke in a bedroom fatally shot with a 30-30-caliber rifle.
Medical teams treated the girl and took her to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m.
Officers arrested Douglas John Fathke, 44, (pictured, left) on murder charges. They also arrested him for attempted murder and terroristic threatening after it was learned that he had allegedly tried to strangle a 16-year-old boy staying at the bed-and-breakfast.
Police ordered an autopsy to determine an exact cause of death.
